As multinational companies place greater emphasis on shipment security, risk management, and supply chain visibility, Vietnam’s logistics sector faces growing pressure to meet international standards.

Expectations rise in modern logistics sector

At a conference on building resilient supply chains in Phu Tho province last week, Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort, said supply chain resilience is becoming an increasingly important factor in investment and sourcing decisions as businesses seek greater security, flexibility, and continuity.

“Global trade is becoming increasingly regionalised and more vulnerable to disruption. In this environment, resilience matters just as much as efficiency, and businesses are increasingly looking for logistics ecosystems that can provide flexibility, trust, and continuity,” Weng said.

His comments come as multinational corporations reassess supply chain strategies in response to geopolitical tensions, maritime disruptions, cyber risks, and climate-related events. As production networks become more diversified, logistics security and operational reliability are increasingly viewed as competitive advantages rather than compliance requirements.

Weng explained that as companies diversify production and sourcing across Asia, investors are increasingly evaluating logistics reliability, security standards, business continuity capabilities, and digital readiness alongside traditional factors such as labour costs and market access.
