Fashion mogul was convicted on four counts of sexual assault
Disgraced fashion mogul and convicted sex offender Peter Nygard is asking Ontario's top court to overturn his four sexual assault convictions and "excessive" 11-year sentence, arguing that the judge made a plethora of errors at his Toronto trial.
Nygard, 83, was convicted by a jury last year of sexually assaulting three women and a 16-year-old girl in the top-floor bedroom of his former Toronto headquarters at 1 Niagara St. between the 1980s and 2005. He was sentenced to prison last week. In a notice filed with the Ontario Court of Appeal on Monday, Nygard's appeal lawyers argue that his sentence is "excessive and reflects an error in principle."
