NDP MPP making jump to federal level

A second Ontario New Democrat MPP is looking to make the leap to federal politics even though provincial parties are scrambling to nominate candidates amid expectations Premier Doug Ford will call an early election.
Monique Taylor, who has represented Hamilton Mountain in the legislature since 2011, said Monday she will seek the NDP nomination for the riding in the next federal vote.
“This decision has not come easily … but under (Prime Minister) Justin Trudeau, things have gotten worse,” Taylor, a lifelong Hamiltonian who has served as children and social services critic under Ontario New Democrat Leader Marit Stiles, told supporters.
