Popular walking and cycling path undergoing repairs
Access to the Lower Don River Trail, seen looking south from the Riverdale Park bridge, will remain boarded up until at least next summer. Parts of the trail have suffered dramatic erosion.
The city has quietly pushed back until next year the reopening of the Lower Don River Trail, a popular cycling and walking path along the river that was closed last year for upgrades.
Citing poor soil conditions that workers discovered in late 2023, the trail is now rescheduled to open again in July 2025.
“We’re missing out on this trail for last year, all of this year and now another (half ) year,” said local councillor Paula Fletcher, who last fall expressed extreme disappointment with the first delay and the project beginning in the midst of other big civic work such as the Ontario Line, the Gardiner Expressway and several local road closures.
