'Planet On Track To Warm By 2.5°C By 2099'
The current pledges of over 190 countries to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are not enough to save the world from the disastrous consequences of climate change as the current commitments could put the world on track for around 2.5°C of warming by the end of the century, says a new report of the UN climate body.
The report, analyzing combined climate pledges, notes that though the countries are together "bending the curve of GHG emissions downward", these efforts remain "insufficient" to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C by the end of the century.
