Ever since his conviction for a rape in 1991, his life has meandered from one appalling act of cruelty to another.

Allegations of domestic abuse, benefit fraud and violence have formed the backdrop to his most cunning crime - the 2009 National Lottery fraud.

An unlikely friendship between Putman and mild-mannered Camelot worker Giles Knibbs formed the basis for the scam.

Putman splurged his ill-gotten gains on a lavish lifestyle, spending his cash on BMWs and luxury holidays.
