A tick shock after 165 years

Sunken watch is back in UK home

A POCKET watch that sank to the bottom of an American lake 165 years ago when a ship went down is finally back in its UK hometown.

The 16-carat gold timepiece belonged to Herbert Ingram, a journalist and MP from Boston, Lincs.

He was on board the steamship Lady Elgin with his son on Lake Michigan when a violent storm broke out on the night of September 8, 1860.

The ship collided with another vessel and Ingram was among the roughly 300 people who died.
