Walk of Devotion

February 12, 2025

In the wee hours of Feb 11, 2025, the Lim family, along with other barefoot devotees, embarked on a journey from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple to Sri Thendayuthapani Temple, carrying two 2m-tall kavadis. The procession, led by Mrs. Lim, included ritual piercings and was a display of devotion and family unity.

A follower of the Yu Feng Nam Fu Xuan Shan temple helping Mr Eugene Lim adjust his tongue piercing after it came loose during the procession on Feb 11. Kavadi bearing is often accompanied by ritual piercings – on the cheek, tongue and torso.

Recalling the Lims’ early Thaipusam years, Mr Kumar said with a chuckle: “Michael was nervous about the piercings in his first year, but he gradually got used to it.”

With the festival set for Feb 11 in 2025, Mr Lim’s family began preparing for it a week in advance.
