Trainer Selvan has got last-start victor tight and taut for another strike at Sungai Besi

VALERIE PEGASUS IS IN TOP SHAPE

That last win on March 1 was something to savour. If anything, it was a powerful statement of intent. Sure, it was his fifth time in the winner's enclosure. But, one could say, Valerie Pegasus has more where those came from.

The Shamexpress five-year-old gets into the action in Race 5, a Class 4B (1,100m) in Kuala Lumpur on March 16 and, right now, it appears he is ready for anything that his rivals can throw at him.

On a quiet morning at Sungai Besi with hardly any blistering gallops, Valerie Pegasus came out for a good stretch, reeling off the last 600m in a modest 40.2sec.

On the strength of that easy gallop, his trainer Nick Selvan would be confident Valerie Pegasus can put together a race-to-race double.

At that last win in a Class 5A race over 1,150m, Valerie Pegasus was never in doubt once Aify Yahaya drove him to the front.

Valerie Pegasus would eventually beat the fast-finishing Thunderstorm by 1¼ lengths. It was a polished performance and a promotion to Class 4 should not be cause for worry.
