Striker shortage sparks summer transfer frenzy

The hottest commodity in the 2025 summer transfer window is the goal-scoring striker.
Not an unusual state of affairs, though in recent years, attacking fullbacks, commanding centre backs and wide forwards have been must-have items on sporting directors' shopping lists.
Centre forwards are back in fashion and scarcity drives up demand. Arsenal's deliberation over Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres has plenty to do with the sale prices they were asked to meet. In a market where £50 million (S$86.2 million) appears the starting price for talent, clubs must be careful in times of stiffened spending regulations.
Probably the Premier League market's most prized item is 25-year-old Alexander Isak, and close to the finished article after three excellent seasons at Newcastle. Rumours abound that the No. 9 fancies a further challenge beyond England's north-east. Liverpool, having already spent £115 million on Florian Wirtz, are interested.
