WP newcomer Andre Low will face off against the PAP's Mr Ng Chee Meng in Jalan Kayu SMC in the upcoming general election.
The PAP announced on April 19 that Mr Ng, the labour chief, would be contesting the single seat, but up till Nomination Day on April 23, it had remained unclear who he would be up against.
The WP had been giving out fliers in Jalan Kayu, without announcing a potential candidate for the constituency.
Mr Low, 33, emerged as the party's candidate after appearing at the Deyi Secondary nomination centre in Ang Mo Kio at around 10.30am.
The school is also the nomination centre for Ang Mo Kio GRC, Kebun Baru SMC and Yio Chu Kang SMC - constituencies that the WP is not contesting.
In these SMCs, incumbent PAP MPs are defending their seats.
In Yio Chu Kang, Mr Yip Hon Weng, 48, is up against private college lecturer Michael Fang, 48, from the People's Alliance for Reform (PAR).
Meanwhile, in Kebun Baru, Mr Henry Kwek, 49, is facing the PSP's Mr Tony Tan, 55. Mr Tan, a former Singapore Armed Forces scholarship holder, is co-founder of a private education and gaming firm and the husband of PSP first vice-chair Hazel Poa.
Regarding the WP-PAP fight for Jalan Kayu, Mr Ng, 56, told reporters: "Well, I am looking forward to a fair and (respectful) contest.
