He marks first La Liga game as Real boss with 1-0 win as Mbappe nets from the spot
-
MADRID - Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso was full of praise for match winner Kylian Mbappe on Aug 19, saying that the French striker was full of "desire" to win.
The 26-year-old struck from the penalty spot as Real beat a dogged Osasuna 1-0 to make a winning start to the La Liga season under new coach Alonso.
Mbappe, last season's European Golden Shoe winner, scored early in the second half after he was fouled in the area by Osasuna defender Juan Cruz.
It was enough to seal maximum points in Alonso's first game in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Real now unbeaten in their opening fixture of a league campaign since 2008.
"You can see that Kylian wants to do even more after this first year, where he did great things," said Alonso.
Mbappe finished as La Liga's top scorer with 31 goals in his first season in Spain, and is now wearing the No. 10 shirt vacated by Luka Modric after the veteran Croat left for AC Milan in July.
