Marking 180 years of telling your Singapore story
The Straits Times
|January 03, 2025
Come July, ST will mark its 180th anniversary and, all through the year, we are celebrating with a series of events and activities aimed at bringing ST closer to the community and its audiences.
Happy 2025 and warmest wishes for the new year. This year marks a milestone for The Straits Times. The very first edition of ST was published on July 15, 1845, and in a few months' time, we will mark 180 years.
One hundred and eighty years is a very long time for any organisation. And at ST, we see continuing this legacy, and paving the way for the future, as simultaneously an incredible honour and a heavy responsibility.
The Straits Times, in its various forms, has been a part of Singapore's own history. Many chapters of Singapore's past, from its colonial history to its wartime scars, from the journey through independence to its improbable economic ascent, have been captured in the words, pictures, videos and now social media posts of the newspaper.
No publication makes it to nearly two centuries without constantly reinventing itself and staying close and relevant to the community it serves. And so, in this milestone year, we are once again working on delivering new experiences for you while ensuring we continue the in-depth and reliable journalism you have come to expect from us.
For generations, you have trusted us to tell your stories, and this year, we will renew our commitment to do just that and to strengthen our bonds with the community we serve.
The theme for our 180th year is "Telling Your Singapore Story". We will do this in several ways across our platforms, and we will also be meeting some of you through a series of events, so we can hear directly from you about the issues you care about and how we can serve you better. Collectively, these events and the year through which we organise them and engage with you will be known as ST180.
