Manager Howe lauds his striker's 14th goal of season, which keeps Newcastle in fifth place

Newcastle United inflicted more misery on injury-ravaged Tottenham Hotspur on Jan 4, as Alexander Isak extended his English Premier League scoring streak in a 2-1 away victory.

Both sides struck inside the first six minutes as Anthony Gordon cancelled out Dominic Solanke's opener for Spurs.

Isak then scored for the seventh consecutive league game to claim a sixth straight win in all competitions for Newcastle, who remain in fifth place in the battle for a place in next season's Champions League.

"We had to dig deep today. It was a tough win but a massive one," said Magpies boss Eddie Howe.

"He (Isak) was in the right place at the right time. That's an art. Another good cross from Jacob (Murphy). He's on a hot streak, long may that continue.

"And confidence (in the team) has definitely shifted, it naturally does when you win games. It was something we were building to.

"Performances were good. We're a very good team with good players. I'd like to think we can keep it going."
