Autumn Glow Extends Winning Streak in Theo Marks Stakes

SYDNEY - Connections regarded Autumn Glow as the best horse in the country not to have won a Group 1 race, and it seems only a matter of time before the Chris Waller-trained mare sheds that tag after another breathtaking performance at Rosehill.

The four-year-old remains unbeaten after she notched her sixth win in succession in the A$300,000 (S$256,000) Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1,300m) on Sept 13.

The daughter of The Autumn Sun is on her way to following the path blazed by Waller's former legendary mare Winx, who captured the Theo Marks Stakes 10 years ago before taking out the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1,600m).

Waller's assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth said the handicappers' assessment would ultimately determine whether Autumn Glow presses on to the Epsom, but the Randwick mile feature on Oct 4 remains their goal at this stage.

"She's got to be the best horse in training who is yet to win a Group 1, which is the one thing that's missing off her resume, but I'm sure that will come," he said.

"The target is the Epsom, so it will be interesting to see what weight she gets in that.

"She is still very lightly raced and is continuing to improve. What her optimum distance is, is still yet to be seen. She has got endless gears."

Autumn Glow ($7) settled third for Kerrin McEvoy and began to improve on the home turn.
