Top cops face show-cause notice over Salt Lake stadium mayhem

In an unprecedented move, Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar and Mukesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar, have been issued show-cause notices for dereliction of duty in connection with the chaos at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) on 13 December during the visit of Lionel Messi. Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department, was also served a similar notice.

Aneesh Sarkar, DCP, has been placed under suspension and departmental proceedings initiated against him for reported negligence in his duties and responsibilities. Deb Kumar Nandan, retired WBCS officer and CEO of the stadium, has been removed from his post with immediate effect.
