Congress must reform
The Statesman
|November 28, 2024
SIR, The Congress party had been in power for several decades after independence.
-
Their tenure achieved significant milestones and faced several challenges in shaping the country’s political landscape.
However, since 2014, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained prominence, reducing drastically the importance of the grand old party.
At present Congress is ruling in three states, while BJP is in power in 12 states and part of the ruling coalition in four more states. If the trend is allowed to continue, Congress will go into oblivion.
The presence of a strong opposition at the national level is essential for a healthy democracy and to eliminate its monopoly on Indian politics and governance.
