SIR process likely to start in first week of November

Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal may start from the first week of November, beginning the first official move towards holding Assembly elections in the state, scheduled during the first half of next year.
Officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) held an important meeting on Thursday with the district magistrates, who are also the district election officers (DEOs), of East Midnapore, Jhargram and Bankura, as well as the assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) and block level officers (BLOs) of the three districts in Kolaghat. Preparatory and procedural measures related to the SIR were discussed.

Man beaten to death over bicycle row, one arrested
A man was beaten to death allegedly over a dispute involving a borrowed bicycle in Sonarpur South 24-Parganas, triggering political tension in the area.
