School heads focus on hands-on interdisciplinary curriculum for girl students

An education summit attended by heads of CISCE, CBSE, and State-run schools of West Bengal turned out to be a positive attempt in ensuring that every girl, irrespective of background, finds her rightful place in the laboratories of learning and the frontiers of innovation.

STEM is an educational approach that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics into a hands-on, interdisciplinary curriculum. It focuses on applying these subjects to real-world problems, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration skills to prepare students for future innovation.

The acronym can also include other subjects, such as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) or STREAM by including Reading/Writing.

It wasn't a typical policy meet; it was a confluence of conviction and collaboration. The Policy Roundtable on “From Intent to Impact: Advancing Policy Frameworks for Girls in STEM Education,” held at Hyatt Regency, Kolkata, on the second day of the 4th CII Education East Summit on 31st October, turned into a laboratory of ideas where education leaders and policymakers reimagined the future of STEM for girls in India.

The discussions went far beyond policy rhetoric. It unfolded into a mosaic of perspectives, drawing threads from classrooms, corridors, and communities across the state and beyond.
