Alliance trouble: Athawale snub sparks rift in Mahayuti

The political alliance between the BJP and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde to fight the municipal corporation election scheduled for 15 January, 2026, broke down in 14 places on Tuesday due to which both the parties will fight as an alliance only in Mumbai and Thane, sources said.

Hence, both the parties will contest the municipal corporation elections separately in the municipal corporations of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Nashik, Nanded, Amravati, Malegaon, Akola, MiraBhayander, Navi Mumbai, Dhule, Ulhasnagar, Sangli , Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna, sources said.

Moreover, in these places, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar-led NCP has been kept away from the BJP-Shinde Sena alliance, dueto which there is a possibility of a tri-cornered or even multi-cornered fight in these cities, sources said.
