Women cotton farmers lead Gram Sabha to address water scarcity

In a groundbreaking initiative, 110 women cotton farmers from Padiabahal Gram Panchayat in Khaprakhol block convened a special Gram Sabha to tackle the pressing issue of water scarcity, which severely impacts cotton cultivation—the region's primary livelihood source.
The state government has committed to tripling irrigated agricultural land by expediting stalled projects and ensuring full irrigation coverage by 2029. The women-led Gram Sabha brought together the Sarpanch, all 11 ward members, the President of the GP-level Mahasangha, 8 Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs), and MBKs to discuss sustainable solutions for water accessibility.

It has now become clear that we cannot recycle our way out of the plastic crisis.
