NHRC seeks ATR on sign language in Court, offices

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought for Action Taken Report (ATR) from the union Law and Justice Ministry on the alleged human rights violation of differently able persons, especially the speech and hearing impaired due to lack of sign languages in Courts, quasi-judicial Forums, police stations and government offices.
Acting on a Petition filed by human rights lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy, the top rights panel passed the order on 7 March.
The petition highlighted the significant challenges faced by deaf, dumb, speech-impaired citizens in accessing justice due to language barriers and inadequate resources.
