IIM Sambalpur has leapfrogged in NIRF 2025, by securing the 34th rank in the latest assessment.
Even as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi lauded the GST reforms and claimed it will benefit Odisha without making any mention on the projected revenue loss as well as demand for compensation, the Opposition BJD hit out saying Odisha should get at least Rs 1000 crore towards compensation.
Reacting to the reduction of GST rates and slabs, the BJD on Thursday said kendu leaves and handloom products ought to have been exempted from GST. The reduction of rate to 5% is not what we had been demanding over the years for kendu leaves which is a tribal dominated business, said the BJD.
The regional party further pointed out that the new GST slabs could lead to a revenue loss of around Rs 1,000 crore per month for the Odisha government while insisting that the Centre must compensate for the loss.
BJD's Senior Vice President Debi Prasad Mishra and former finance minister Niranjan Pujari, briefing reporters here today, elaborated on the implications of the new GST slabs on Odisha.
Mishra stated that since 2018, the BJD has been demanding complete GST exemption on kendu leaves, and the then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had even written letters to the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman requesting the same.
