SAPS nets 2 320 suspected sex offenders in one month

THE SOUTH African Police Service (SAPS) has made "notable progress" in its fight against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), with more than 2 300 suspected sexual offenders arrested and 46 sentenced to life imprisonment during September.
According to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda van Wyk, the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units recorded 2 320 arrests nationwide for crimes including rape, sexual assault, abduction, and attempted rape.
The Western Cape led with 536 arrests, followed by Gauteng with 459 and KwaZulu-Natal with 360.
