Wolstanton golfers in fine form to land Sentinel’s golf competitions

FINALS DAY LINE-UP: The finalists at Trentham Golf Club with Sentinel Golf committee members Simon Smith, Vanda Gibbons, Amrik Raid and Peter Keller.

Reigning Sentinel Cup champion Andrew Lipscomb eventually emerged triumphant after a titanic tussle with John Ryan of Greenway Hall.

While in the Sentinel Shield, Jon Downs made it a fantastic double for their club by overcoming Adam Heath of Burslem Golf Club.

Andrew retained the cup he won last year after beating John Ryan on the 20th hole after a sudden shoot out at Trentham Golf Club.

He said: “I was delighted to defend the trophy in a close match with John. I was fortunate to come out on top.

“Big thanks to everyone on the Sentinel committee who continue to do great work organising the competition and raising money for local charities”

John Ryan needed physio, acupuncture and injections in his wrist to ensure he made it on finals day.

He said: “I was gutted I could not half the 18th hole to win the match, I also thought I had won on the first extra play off hole but Andy sank a 10ft foot to keep his hopes alive.
