Went for a haircut stayed for the riot

Riot police in the city centre in August of 2024. And, inset, Shuaib Zamir, who has been jailed for 26 months.

Shuaib Zamir has been jailed after throwing a missile and holding a makeshift weapon in the Hanley riots. The 31-year-old was involved in the large-scale disturbance for three hours on August 3, 2024.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard that Zamir played an active role, encouraged others, and was at the forefront of the group which approached counter-protesters and the police cordon.

He was seen to throw a missile at the group, was holding a broom, and threw another item towards police and counter-protesters.

But he was seen to usher members of his group away from Hanley Greggs which had been smashed up.
