WAIT GOES ON FOR FIRST WIN

PORT Vale are still looking for their first League One win of the season after losing 3-2 at home in agonising fashion against Leyton Orient.

The game marked a first goal for Devante Cole on his debut but, after starting with an early goal, the Valiants fell away with a lack-lustre first-half showing which cost them, and they only really sparked back into life after the break with the halftime introductions of the brilliant Funso Ojo and Ruari Paton.

Not putting in a 90-minute display once again cost Darren Moore's side, who really should be able to sustain their flashes of great form over a longer period.

Ryan Croasdale scored a seventh-minute opener, set up by Cole, but after Aaron Connolly levelled six minutes later, the visitors took control and added a second a minute before the break through deadline-day signing Dom Ballard.

After the ineffective George Byers and Mo Faal made way for Ojo and Paton, Vale's energy levels increased and they dominated their opponents, just as they had been dominated in the first half.

Cole snatched an equaliser on 52 minutes and after a lull in the game, Moore's side laid siege to the Orient goal in the final 10 minutes plus five minutes of stoppage time.

It seemed they must grab a winner, but with seconds remaining the visitors broke to steal the points.

Any potential cheers at the final whistle quickly turned to boos after a seventh league game without a win, including five defeats, left Vale second from bottom of the table.

With Joe Gauci away on international duty, it meant a recall for Marko Marosi in goal, while Ben Amos returned from injury on the bench.

Gauci was one of four changes to the team that lost at Reading last time out in League One.

Out too went Jesse Debrah, with a slight injury issue according to Moore, while Mitch Clark and Ronan Curtis were dropped to the bench.

The big news was a start for Cole as Moore deemed him fit to play following his move from West Brom.

As well as Marosi and Cole, in came Kyle John and the recalled Connor Hall.
