Vale lift 'Tuesday curse' before moving into the top two

DARREN Moore revealed he was unaware of the 'Tuesday curse' at Port Vale up until a week before seeing his team brush aside Bradford City by two goals to nil.

That seemed remarkable in itself given how public this statistic was and how frequently it had been batted around in the media.

It was ironic the 'curse' should happen on April Fool's Day, and it's hard to believe the last time it occurred was in March 2022.

"I didn't realise about the Tuesday curse until a couple of days after the Barrow game [March 25] when it started to circulate around the club," Moore told the club.

"I was disappointed to know that, you know, that three-year period.

"This was the last Tuesday night this season we had a chance of putting it right - and what a way to put it right with the performance from the players.

"I asked the boys to be relentless with their work and every single one of them, to a man, was."

Ben Amos' late penalty save prevented a potentially nervy finish, and Moore added: "We know information on penalty takers and that lateness in the game, you've still got a while to play to hang on and we didn't want to give Bradford anything to hang their hat on.

"It could have given them wind in their sails. It's not a miss, it's a save. It really is a save.

"His [Amos] concentration levels epitomise the way he trains, the way he looks after himself and how he's focused, and it illustrates what a good goalkeeper we've got that he could be that focused to pull off that save."
