'Stop abusing our road workers!'

216 incidents across county in 12 months

HIGHWAYS bosses are backing a national campaign to stop the abuse of road workers - after it emerged that there have been more than 200 incidents in the last 12 months.

The Stamp it Out campaign hopes to raise awareness of the issue amongst the public and help prevent road workers being abused every day.

Research by the group found that 50 per cent of those in public-facing roles face daily abuse, while 80 per cent do not report it, thinking nothing will be done about it.

And in Staffordshire, the campaigners have identified a total of 216 incidents that have been recorded over the last year and of those, 34 were threats of violence or attack.
