'Moore reaction to seaside defeat was a masterstroke'

THE weather meant that Port Vale were left kicking their heels. CLIVE YOULTON continues his review of the Valiants' season...

'Moore reaction to seaside defeat was a masterstroke'

PORT Vale's match against Wrexham in the last 16 of the Football League Trophy was postponed due to severe weather.

It meant a period of two weeks of inactivity for the Valiants who, following the win against Doncaster on January 4, had to wait until January 18 to play again.

Meanwhile, Port Vale Supporters' Club chairman Mark Porter went on record to describe what Darren Moore did at Grimsby Town after the final whistle as "a masterstroke."

Since Moore made the players stand in front of the supporters to receive a barrage of criticism after the 3-0 defeat, Vale had bounced back with four points from their subsequent two games.

That coincided with Ben Garrity's return to the fold, as well as Nathan Smith being included, but even so, there was a reaction from those players who survived from that game.

Porter believed things were on the up once again at Vale and insisted the fans had played a part. "The one thing you can't take away this season so far is the fans have been incredible once again," he said.

"The way they have got behind the team and travelled and tried to do their best for the players has been amazing."
