Moore: I always knew we'd recover in cup encounter

DARREN Moore insisted he was always confident Port Vale would recover from going a goal down to Maldon & Tiptree in the FA Cup.

Vale fell behind to their non-league visitors in the early stages, but roared back to lead 4-1 at halftime.

The Valiants boss only saw his team add one goal after the interval, but he was more than satisfied with the professional job his players accomplished.

‘There was no talk of wanting to put on a show for fans and score more, just the fact the club had made it to the second round of the FA Cup which was the objective.

“Credit to everyone, it was a banana skin for us,” he told the club. “It was all about getting into the second round and we've done exactly that.

“We spoke in the week about conducting ourselves in the right manner. We did exactly that.

“Probably the first goal they scored probably gave us the kick up the backside that we needed. The response was swift, it was immediate. The next 25 minutes after that was really decisive and settled the game very early.”
