DARREN Moore said defeat at Wigan was a wake-up call for his players as their five-game unbeaten league run came to an end.

- Michael Baggaley

In fact, Moore said his team were guilty of complacency following recent results and have to improve on this performance against a Wigan side who played the whole of the second half with 10 men.

Dara Costelloe was sent off on 44 minutes for kicking Kyle John in the head while attempting an overhead kick on the edge of the area. But Wigan took the lead on 56 minutes when Ronan Curtis’ header across his area let in Maleace Asamoah to slot the ball past Joe Gauci.

Moore threw on forwards to try to find a way through but Vale couldn’t seriously test Latics keeper Sam Tickle on the way to a 1-0 defeat that leaves them 18th.

Boss Moore said: “It was a humbling day for us as a team. With how the game went, with them going a man down, complacency crept in.
