Meakins launch astonishing recovery mission to win at Stafford

MEAKINS thirds shrugged off a disappointing batting performance to win a low-scoring encounter at Stafford 3rd XI in NSSCL Division Six.

The prospect of victory for Meakins looked to be a long way off after they could only muster 62 all out. J Stephens made 12, but O Bell’s 5-8, 3-12 from N Parambath and a couple of victims for M Saleem, seemingly put Stafford on top.

However, the visitors roared back into the contest thanks to a superb bowling performance.

J Mugava (5-14) and O Radzins (3-17) did the damage as Stafford fell to 56 all out. W Ashton (18) and J Bartlett (13no) made the biggest contributions with the bat.

There was another close finish at Cresswell Lane where hosts Blythe seconds beat Wedgwood 2nd XI by one wicket.

Blythe were set 186 to win - and Kabir Jhangir (42), Craig Lancaster (27), Bilal Ifticar (25) and Qmer Ikram (20) starred to see Blythe home with more than four overs to spare.

Muhammad Yasoob Zafar claimed 3-37 for the visitors.
