'Find families of our heroes for memorial'
The Sentinel
|September 08, 2025
HERE in Burslem (Motto - 'Ready') we're getting ready for the unveiling event of the long overdue replacement Royal Doulton war memorial.
Even though it won't take place until November 16 we need your help now to track down descendants of the 58 men and one woman fallen Royal Doulton workers who served in either the First World War or Second World War and whose names were immortalised on the original war memorials.
We want to invite relatives who care about Burslem to witness the long-awaited unveiling ceremony.
This commemoration to honour those lives is going ahead thanks to a collective effort by many, not least the tenacity of those members of Burslem History Club who were determined that the original tablet which had once taken pride of place in the old Nile Street works would be reinstated.
History club member Mike Lighfoot well remembers every now and again seeing a fresh bouquet of flowers placed by the memorial in memory of the birthday of a loved one.
Typical of Burslem people, they would not let up until the lost memorial was replaced. How right they are to never give up.
