The success of James Bond in cinemas led to the creation of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. It is said 007 writer Ian Fleming conceived the idea over a lunch with American TV bosses and it developed into a spy series starring Robert Vaughn as Napoleon Solo and David McCallum as his Russian colleague Illya Kuryakin.
