JCB hails historic decision to let hydrogen diggers use roads
JCB has hailed a 'monumental' Government decision to change the law to allow hydrogen diggers to be driven on UK roads.
The company's chairman Anthony Bamford, below - who instigated a £100 million project to develop a hydrogen combustion engine to power JCB's machines - has welcomed the 'historic' news.
Lord Bamford's reaction came as a hydrogen powered JCB digger was driven around London to mark the announcement by roads minister Lilian Greenwood MP. It even called in at the Department for Transport on Tuesday afternoon to meet the minister.
Ms Greenwood said: "This shows once again we are on the side of British business, as we now allow hydrogen-powered diggers and tractors to be legally driven on UK roads for the first time.
