Council cash will fund family support and help orchard bear fruit

Groups share in authority's latest 'civic pride' grants

PRACTICAL support for struggling parents and the extension of a shared orchard are just two of the community projects that are benefiting from a new fund.

The backing was revealed as Newcastle Borough Council confirmed the first successful applicants to its Civic Pride Investment Fund. Groups and organisations can apply for small grants to fund positive schemes and events as part of a wider initiative designed to boost pride, and feelings of belonging, in Newcastle neighbourhoods.

And now a panel has awarded £2,000 to the Stoke-on-Trent Baby Bank charity to support the development of a branch at Newcastle Family Hub.
