State Govt to begin paddy procurement for Rabi season from May 1

THE Odisha government is set to begin the procurement of paddy for the 2023-24 Rabi season, with arrangements in place for the process to run from May 1 to June 30.
The state aims to procure approximately 14 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy, involving over 3.37 lakh registered farmers. This decision was confirmed during a high-level meeting of the State-level Paddy Procurement Committee held on Friday at Lok Seva Bhawan, chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja. District Collectors and Civil Supply Officers participated in the meeting via video conferencing, with Principal Secretary for Food Supply and Consumer Welfare, Sanjay Kumar Singh, presenting key details and addressing concerns related to the procurement process.
Sanjay Kumar Singh also highlighted the record success of the previous Kharif season, during which the state procured an unprecedented 73.45 LMT of paddy from nearly 16.6 lakh farmers. A total of Rs 16,853 crore was disbursed to farmers as Minimum Support Price (MSP), along with an additional Rs 5,862 crore in input assistance.
