Skin Bank at AIIMS Bhubaneswar will transform burn care in eastern India: Union Health Minister Nadda

I: a major boost to health-care infrastructure in Eastern India, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda, announced the establishment of the region's first government-run Skin Bank at AIIMS Bhubaneswar during his official visit to the institute on Saturday.

“This will not only improve survival outcomes but also significantly enhance the quality of life for patients in Odisha and neighbouring states,” said Nadda, emphasizing the urgent need for such a facility. The Skin Bank will collect skin from donors within six hours of death and provide life-saving grafts for patients suffering from severe burns — reducing dependence on existing centres in Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Lauding AIIMS Bhubaneswar for achieving parity with its Delhi counterpart, Nadda described the institution as a beacon of excellence in the region. His visit marked a series of key inaugurations and foundation-laying events that highlight the government's commitment to holistic, inclusive, and research-driven health-care development.

Among the major highlights of the day was the inauguration of the state-of-the-art Central Research Laboratory, envisioned as a hub for cutting-edge medical innovation and translational research.
