Odisha's Grassroots Sports Revolution: Taking Sporting Dreams Beyond Cities

The state is focusing on its villages, tribal areas, and small towns to nurture a new generation of athletes. Over the past year, the Government of Odisha has launched an ambitious grassroots sports development mission, combining infrastructure, opportunity, and inclusivity to transform every block into a potential nursery for future champions.

With the goal of bringing sporting opportunities to every corner of the state, the Odisha Government has rolled out a "doorstep facility” model. This innovative approach ensures young athletes have access to quality sports infrastructure and training close to home, eliminating the need for long-distance travel and breaking down barriers to entry. It’s a strategy designed not only to identify and nurture local talent but also to create an environment where children can dream big without leaving their roots. In essence, the initiative is democratizing sports by making it accessible to all, regardless of geography or background.

One of the most ambitious components of the plan is the allocation of Rs 14.5 crore for each block to build, upgrade, and maintain sports facilities. These include multi-sport complexes, training centers, and arenas for both Olympic and indigenous sports. The goal is to cover all 314 blocks in the state, ensuring equitable access to resources.
