Odisha govt to regulate private ambulance services for improved healthcare accessibility

IN a major step towards enhancing emergency medical transport services, the Odisha government on Saturday announced plans to regulate private ambulance services across the state. The decision follows a crucial meeting led by Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Commerce & Transport Department, and Aswathy S, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Health & Family Welfare Department.

Private ambulances play a pivotal role in bridging healthcare gaps, particularly in remote and underserved regions of Odisha. Recognizing this importance, the meeting discussed the need for a comprehensive regulatory framework to ensure transparency, operational consistency, and wider accessibility for citizens. A key outcome was the launch of a campaign-mode registration drive aimed at bringing all private ambulances under a standardized platform. This initiative will help create a verified database of services, streamline enforcement, and facilitate quicker and more efficient deployment of ambulances during emergencies.
