Time better spent
The Philippine Star
|November 22, 2024
I was recently invited to be a guest on a news and current affairs program to talk about the ongoing investigations of the quad comm. It shocked the guest coordinator when I replied that I have not watched a single episode and therefore, I would not be qualified to comment or analyze any of it.
The guest coordinator apparently could not contain her disbelief and asked why I didn't watch any of it. (Perhaps assuming that any and all journalists would be glued to the investigations.) I simply said, "I have better things to spend my time on."
The truth is, it was not the first time I have been asked to comment about the "quad comm investigations" and always I have said that it does not interest me, especially since I have seen many similar high-profile investigations amount to nothing or made things worse.
Go over the two impeachments conducted by Congress, the "imprisonment" of two presidents, controversial brown bag pay-offs, etc. etc. At the end of the day, it was either a grab for power or political vendetta while true legislation is left lacking! As I often say, it's not the first time they investigate, and it won't be last. So many have been detained, charged and publicly crucified, only to be resurrected or re-elected as senators or members of Congress.
Be careful and intentional what you spend your time or waste your time on. Today, the biggest challenge of most people is being focused and purposeful. The congressional investigations have jumped off the tracks and are not only wasting precious government resources, but they are also turning thousands if not millions of Filipinos into distracted and unproductive and misinformed citizens.
