As the full moon waxes poetic, Filipinos prepare to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

- KATHERINE L. MAGSANOC

Steeped in rich history and cultural significance, this festival is more than just a date on the calendar. It is a time for family reunions, expressions of appreciation, and the sharing of mooncakes.

The Mid-Autumn Festival's roots trace back over 3,000 years to ancient China. It is traditionally observed on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar, coinciding with the autumn equinox and a full moon.

WHAT IS THE CELEBRATION FOR?

At its heart, the MidAutumn Festival is a celebration of the harvest season, a time to give thanks for the blessings of life. It is an occasion for families to come together, symbolizing unity and completeness under a bright full moon.

These days, many of my patients enter the clinic not with trembling hands holding their lab results, but with smartphones clenched tightly like stethoscopes.
