Raw sugar exporters may get higher import allocation

Exporters of raw sugar to the United States may be allowed by the government to import more sugar to offset their costs as uncertainties over the Western economy's tariff policy persist.
The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) board issued Sugar Order 5-A that amended certain provisions of the voluntary raw sugar export to the US program in the current crop year 2024-2025.
The SRA board is the policy-making body of the SRA chaired by Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.
The changes were in line with the reciprocal tariffs being implemented by the US as ordered by President Trump. The reciprocal tariffs will impact the cost of exporting sugar to the USA, according to the SRA board.
