Widespread rains are expected to continue affecting large parts of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao over the next 24 hours due to the prevailing southwest monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

- Christine Boton

As of the latest update, moderate to heavy rainfall is being experienced across the northern portions of Central and Southern Luzon, much of the Visayas and large areas of Mindanao.

PAGASA said rains will persist over Northern Mindanao, the Caraga region and much of the Visayas, while generally cloudy skies will prevail over Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas and the Mimaropa region.

The rain-bearing monsoon is also expected to affect other parts of Luzon and Mindanao. However, the state weather bureau noted that the atmosphere remains unstable in these areas, lowering the immediate threat of thunderstorms or landslides.
