Lopez-led First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) and 12 of its locators were recognized for being the biggest sources of revenues and jobs in Santo Tomas City in Batangas last year.

- By LOUELLA DESIDERIO

In a statement, FPIP said Santo Tomas City Mayor Arth Jhun Marasigan awarded plaques of recognition to FPIP and its locators, as well as other big sources of local revenues and employment during the local government unit's Taxpayers’ Day held on Sept. 1.

Based on the records, FPIP and its locators contributed P159 million in taxes or 17 percent of the city’s P935-million income in 2024.

FPIP and its locators also accounted for the bulk or 60 percent of the city’s nearly 12,500 new jobs last year.

Filipino tech is a matter of survival

I write this as someone who has lived the difficult journey of building local technology in a country where foreign companies often dominate the landscape. I have seen how global platforms can shape entire industries and control who rises and who falls. I have seen how digital systems created elsewhere can decide prices, dictate terms and define the rules of competition even on our own soil. And I have seen how much harder it is for Filipino entrepreneurs to grow when the playing field is tilted toward giants with endless capital and virtually unlimited reach.
