While the Kargil War of 1999 remains etched in our history for Pakistan's deceptive capture of the Kargil area, lesser known but equally heroic is the 1965 operation to recapture Kutta Tungi mountain near village Gandeh, just 10 kilometers from Sunderbani city.

In 1965, Pakistani Pathan regiments seized the strategic Kutta Tungi mountain and attacked the Shanb sector. The Indian Army first tasked the Madras Regiment with regaining control, but due to the mountain's difficult terrain and the enemy's stronghold, the regiment could not succeed.
