SC says 'worrying trend' in rape charges

THE Supreme Court has expressed its concern over what is described as a "worrying trend" regarding allegations of rape made by women against men after a long consensual relationship turned sour.
The court's comments were made in a verdict concerning the case of Mahesh Damu Khare, the accused in this instance.
A two-judge bench comprising Justices B V Nagarathna and N Kotiswar Singh allowed the appeal filed by Khare. His lawyers Mrunal Dattatraya Buva, Dhairyashil Salunkhe, Gunnam Venkateswara Rao, AOR (Advocate-on-Record), argued that the relationship was consensual and the allegations were false, initiated only after he discontinued financial assistance to the complainant.
