Centre meets Meitei, Kuki, Naga MLAs over Manipur

IN a bid to bring lasting peace in ethnic violence-hit Manipur, MLAs belonging to different groups from the state on Tuesday came under one roof for the first time to discuss confidence measures suggested by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), sources said.

Manipur has been witnessing intermittent bouts of ethnic violence for the past 17 months, which first broke out on May 3, 2023.

The MHA, in a statement after the meeting, said, “A group of elected members of Manipur Assembly, representing Kuki-Zo-Hmar, Meitei and Naga communities, met in New Delhi today to discuss the current scenario in the state.”

“The meeting unanimously resolved to appeal to the people of the state, belonging to all communities, to shun the path of violence so that no more precious lives of innocent citizens are lost,” the ministry's statement said further.
