6 choke to death in blaze at Dindigul private hospital

SIX people, including a six-year-old girl and two elderly women, died and at least six more were injured in a fire accident at City Hospital, a private medical facility, on Tiruchy Road in Dindigul around 9pm on Thursday.

Three of the injured are in critical condition, Dindigul Collector MN Poongodi said.
According to sources, the victims, who were stranded near the lift on the ground floor of the medical facility, died of suspected suffocation after they got caught in the smoke billowing out from the blaze triggered by a short circuit near the entrance of the hospital.
